An 8-day, 7-night tour exploring the beautiful and historic countryside of the Welsh Marches. Based in the medieval town of Ludlow for 6 nights, with the final night in Bath for easy onward travel. Price includes 7-nights accommodation with breakfast each day, plus 4 other meals, and all entrance fees to places of interest included in itinerary.
Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to England
We gather at our Ludlow hotel for introductions and a ‘Welcome’ meeting, which will be followed with a walking tour of town. Group dinner.
Day 2: Ludlow & Stokesay Castle
In the morning we visit Ludlow Castle and then have some free time. After lunch there will be an afternoon visit to Stokesay Castle. Free for lunch and dinner.
Day 3: Clun & North Shropshire Hills
Today we explore the North Shropshire Hills, with visits to Church Stretton, the Long Mynd and Clun. Free for lunch and dinner.
Day 4: Leominster and Black & White Village Trail
After breakfast we first visit Leominster, with a chance to explore this quaint little town. The rest of the day will be spent following the Black and White Village Trail, exploring these beautiful villages. There will be a group lunch en-route. Free for dinner.
Day 5: Golden Valley & Hay-on-Wye
Our first visit of the day will be to Kilpeck Church, an historic 12th C church with elaborate carvings and decoration. Following the Golden Valley, we pass the delightful villages of Abbey Dore, Vowchurch and Dorstone, with a visit to the 5,500-year-old chambered tomb called Arthur’s Stone. Our day will finish with an afternoon visit to Hay on Wye, known as the ‘Town of Books’. Do not buy too many books! Group lunch and free for dinner.
Day 6: Black Mountains & Brecon Beacons
Today we will explore the stunning Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park, one of Wales’ great National Parks. This is a landscape of dramatic scenery, and we have visits to Brecon, Crickhowell, Abergavenny and Llanthony Priory. Free for lunch and dinner.
Day 7: Wye Valley, Tintern & Georgian Bath
Leaving Ludlow, we first visit the historic market town of Monmouth, with the dramatic Monnow Gate and Bridge. From there we follow the beautiful Wye Valley to Tintern Abbey, the romantic ruins of a Cistercian monastery, made famous by both Wordsworth and Constable. Crossing the River Severn, we reach Bath and check in to our hotel. After a walking tour of this famous Georgian city we gather for our ‘Farewell’ group dinner.
Day 8: Farewell
We say farewell and the tour is over after breakfast
